On Thursday, May 11, Sanford High School’s Art Department hosted an art show to highlight students’ artwork from the 2022-2023 school year.

At Sanford High School, there are a variety of art courses that are offered to allow students to express themselves in different ways. The school offers Art Fundamentals, Ceramics, Ceramics 2, Sculpture, Drawing, 2-D Design, Painting, Watercolor, Studio Art, Studio Art 2, as well as a few AP Art courses.

Art teacher Ms. Monroe shared, “I love that the art show gives us the opportunity to show work from all classes, all grade levels, all skill and ability levels. It’s just a great way to include anyone who is taking an art class.”

The in-person art show went on hiatus for a few years due to the pandemic, but the art teachers put together online art shows to showcase student work. However, being in person allows for connections to be made and more work to be seen.

Art teacher Ms. Monroe shared, “I love seeing all of the work together. It’s fun to see projects that have been done in the same class but in different semesters displayed together and it’s wonderful to be in person again for an art show, because we haven’t had this in a while.”

The art show was a success and will continue to be held in-person in the future.

“My favorite aspect of the art shows is getting to see the artwork our students have done all year,” said Art Teacher Ms. Adams. “For me, I can see all of the growth they’ve had, just from being really nervous about taking art, to gaining more confidence and getting more skills and just getting to see that progress is really amazing.”

The art teachers additionally provided a list of a select few distinguished students that stood out to them this year. Below is a list of these students, as well as some of their art pieces that were displayed at the art show.
