The National Honors Society hosted a closing ceremony on May 23 in Sanford High School’s Performing Arts Center. English teacher Elizabeth White was the elected speaker at the event.

The ceremony had two parts: seniors who are graduating were recognized for their accomplishments, and the new National Honors Society officers were instated, leading into the 2023 and 2024 school year.

“It’s bittersweet because we are celebrating and saying goodbye to our senior members,” said Sandra Thompson,  NHS co-advisor. “But it’s also exciting that the torch has been passed to the leaders that will take us to our next school year.”

The NHS officers of 2022 were President Audrey Coleman, Vice President Miranda Tanguay, Treasurer Samantha Philips, and Secretary Abby Gifford.

New officers are President Alexandra Payeur, Vice President Sydney Roux, Treasurer Aiden Gendron and Secretary Emma Adawadkar.

“I would like to congratulate all the NHS members from the class of 2023, and wish them well on all of their future endeavors,” said Laurie Works, NHS co-advisor. “I am looking forward to working next year with our new slate of officers that were just recently installed.”

The National Honors Society is a nationwide organization made for high school students to give them opportunities to elevate their academic and leadership skills, as well as increase community engagement in the future.
