On Tuesday, May 23, Sanford’s National Honor Society participated in the Day of Caring, a volunteer day at numerous different non-profit organizations.

The last two years, Sanford NHS has gone to the Kennebunk Trolley Museum. Students helped to repaint platforms and fences, clean trolleys, raking, and gardening.

“NHS learned how important it is to volunteer at non-profit organizations that re-invest all of their profit” notes Audrey Coleman, NHS President. “The trolley museum reinvests to benefit their community- through up keeping the education they provide and the historical experience of their Trolley rides”.

Sandy Thompson, co-advisor of NHS says, “The NHS Students learn leadership skills, they interact with other community members, organization, networking, teambuilding, service, socialization, and building relationships with their community.”

The Seashore Trolley Museum houses a History in Motion: Public Transportation Connecting Maine Communities exhibit. The exhibit showcases the history of how trolleys changed the lives of people in Maine, and to learn what past forms of transportation can teach the public.
