The Seacoast Warhawks, part of the East Coast Football League, are the newest renters of Sanford High School’s turf field.

The Warhawks are a semi-pro football team, now based out of Sanford, and are in their fifth season in a league based out of New York. They have never missed playoffs, winning the championship in 2018 and 2022.

The Warhawks have been practicing at the Crystal Athletic facility in Sanford and, with an increase in people from Sanford joining the team, decided that having their facilities more local would benefit them.

The Warhawks team owner, Bob Cote, shared that they had played the last four seasons in Dover, N.H. and he wanted to give his players a better place to play.

“We feel that Sanford High has one of the best stadiums in New England,” Cote stated.

Cote said that the team also wanted to be in a community that supported their program.

“In the short time we have been in Sanford we have felt that support 100%,” he added.

The Warhawks practiced on the turf throughout the spring, but their bigger season is in the summer (schedule found here). They will be hosting more games here at Alumni Stadium, the cost of those games are $5 for students and $10 for adults.

Zach Lemelin, the Sanford Highschool Athletic Director, explained, “I’m super excited about having them here,” adding, “I hope that they have a successful season and have been great renters of our facilities.”
