Baseball
The Spartans wrapped up their regular season on May 30 against South Portland, falling to the Red Riots 1-0 in ten innings. Beckett Barlow led Sanford with three hits. Tanner McCann racked up 10 strikeouts in nine innings. The team finished with a regular season record of 10-6.
They fell to Kennebunk 4-3 in the playoff preliminaries on June 6.
Boys Lacrosse
The Noble/Sanford co-op defeated Portland High School 15-5 in the first round of playoffs. Both AJ Anderson and Ayden Lockard had two goals and two assists.
They then fell to the number one seed and unbeaten Cape Elizabeth, 16-4, in the quarterfinals. Lockard had two goals and Anderson added an assist.
Girls Lacrosse
The Spartans traveled to Westbrook on Tuesday, May 30, defeating the Blue Blazes 19-2. Kay Hessler led the team with 6 goals, followed by Emerson Tolpin with 5, bringing Tolpin over the 100 career point marker. Caitlin Hanselmann, Mckenna Nanartowich and Violet Quinn each added 2 goals apiece. Sadie Sevigny and Miranda Tanguay each tacked on one goal.
They fell to Portland on Thursday, June 1 in a tough 9-7 loss, despite a 7-7 score with three minutes remaining. Tolpin had four goals, Hessler had two, and Quinn scored one.
The 12-seed Spartans traveled to 5-seed Marshwood on Tuesday, June 6. It was a tight first-half battle with a 6-3 halftime score, but the Spartans ultimately fell to the Hawks 17-7. Tolpin led Sanford with five goals. Payton Kimball made seven saves.
Softball
The Kennebunk/Sanford co-op defeated Scarborough 6-2 on Tuesday, May 30. This was the second matchup between these two teams in four days. Hannah Mueller had two hits.
The co-op had to play Scarborough for a third time in a row, this time in the A South Quarterfinal. Despite falling 3-0 early in the game, the co-op held off and made its move in the third inning, defeating the Red Storm 4-3. Madi Sheppard had a hit and Mueller had a hit and RBI.
They fell to second-seed Windham 4-0 in the semifinal on Saturday, June 10.
Girls Tennis
After defeating Cheverus in the first round of playoffs, the Spartans traveled to Scarborough on Tuesday, May 30, for the Class A South Quarterfinal. The #7 Spartans fell to #2 Scarborough 4-1. Sanford’s First Doubles team of Audrey Cote and Audrey Payeur won their match.
Boys Track & Field
The Sanford Track team traveled to the State Meet at Mt. Ararat in Topsham on Saturday, June 3.
Tucker Walker took first in discus, defeating second place by more than a foot. He also placed fourth in the shot put.
Nick Farrington placed third in javelin and Mason Van Gieson took sixth in pole vault.
Walker and Farrington moved on to compete in the New England Track & Field Championships. Walker took a ninth-place finish in discus and Farrington placed thirteenth in javelin.
Girls Track & Field
The Sanford Track team traveled to the State Meet at Mt. Ararat in Topsham on Saturday, June 3. Senior Kora Eckelman took first in discus, breaking a 46-year-old school record by one inch and defeating second place by more than five feet.
Eckelman moved on to compete in the New England Track & Field Championships, where she placed seventeenth.
