On Wednesday, Sept. 20, the freshman class of 2027 heard campaign speeches and voted for their class representatives. There were a number of candidates, making it a tough election. The open office positions included class Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President.

AJ Cote was elected as class treasurer. Cote will help his class with finances and planning enjoyable fundraising events.

Ava Fagan was elected secretary. Fagan will keep notes of class meetings, and help keep all the information for their class organized.

The Vice President is Michael Kiley. Kiley will make sure everything goes smoothly when the president can’t attend meetings or events. Kiley will also help the president with records and meeting information.

The president for the class of 2027 is Paige Sevigny. Sevigny will help the freshmen resolve issues within their class. She will bring up ideas that other students have to the class board.

“I am a great leader, and I can help make the class of 2027 the best freshman class yet,” Sevigny said.

Sevigny is very active in after-school activities like basketball, field hockey and lacrosse, so she has experience with working with others and will be prepared to resolve issues within her class.

As she said in her speech, “Some of the issues in the school that I find important and willing to act upon include lack of communication, and the unwillingness to take time to understand each other.” Sevigny is already taking steps to approach these issues and fix them.

Additionally, after a rigorous search for class advisors, Ethan Mathieu, a science teacher and SHS alumnus, has stepped into the role with Caleb Randall, a fellow SHS alumnus, to oversee this class.

Mathieu was very impressed with the freshman class’s voting options. “You can expect some dedicated freshmen,” he said. “They all come in after school and work on our art projects.”.

The freshman class board is already taking steps to make their class more successful in the future. Congratulations and a job well done to all candidates who ran for office.
