Another week of varsity sports is complete – here’s how our Spartans fared:

Boys Soccer
The Spartans hosted Noble on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The game went into double-overtime, ultimately tying the Knights in a 1-1 draw. Antowayne Chisholm had Sanford’s lone goal in the 48th minute, scoring from 30 yards out. Beckett Barlow had 9 saves.
The game against Deering originally set for Thursday, Sept. 28, was postponed due to bussing issues. The Spartans wrapped up the week on the road at Thornton Academy on Saturday, Sept. 30, where they fell to the Trojans 2-0. Barlow had 18 saves in the loss.
This week, Sanford hosts Gorham on Tuesday, Oct. 3, travels to Westbrook on Thursday, Oct. 5, and hosts Deering on Friday, Oct. 6.
Girls Soccer
The Spartans fell 4-2 in a tough game against second-seeded Gorham on Wednesday, Sept. 27. Julissa McBarron and Annalise Stimmell scored for Sanford. Sophie Olivo made seven saves.
The squad traveled to Massabesic on Friday, Sept. 29, handing the Mustangs a 6-0 defeat. McBarron netted a hat trick while Brielle Landry, Ailey Mann and Hailey Tarbox each added one goal apiece.
The Spartans host Bonny Eagle on Monday, Oct. 2, travel to Falmouth on Wednesday, Oct. 4, and then travel to Biddeford on Friday, Oct. 6.
Field Hockey
The Spartans played three games this week. They fell to Noble 4-1 on Monday, Sept. 25. Lili Lam was the lone goal scorer. Megan Sheppard had 7 saves.
They traveled to Gorham on Wednesday, Sept. 27 where they lost 4-1. Sadie Sevigny scored off an Audrey Payeur assist.
They bounced back and defeated Marshwood 3-1 at home on Saturday, Sept. 30. Goals were scored by Sadie Sevigny, Audrey Payeur, and Lili Lam. Ellie Davis tallied an assist.
The team travels to Kennebunk on Monday, Oct. 2, hosts Massabesic on Thursday, Oct. 5, and then travels to Bonny Eagle on Saturday, Oct. 7.
Football
The Spartans fell to Thornton Academy on Friday, October 29 in a tough 41-14 loss. Jordan Bissonnette earned the two touchdowns Matty Hebert went 2 for 2 in field goals.
Sanford travels to Kennebunk for a 1:30 p.m. game on Saturday, Oct. 7.
Golf
The Spartans celebrated their seniors on Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Sanford Country Club. Sanford defeated Massabesic 11-2 in team play (252-314 strokes). Ayden Lockard. Zachary Parison, Brody Baron, Noah Corliss and AJ Anderson all won in head-to-head matchups.
Volleyball
The Spartans fell to Kennebunk 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 26. They bounced back to defeat Windham 3-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
They finished the week hosting Portland on Saturday, Sept. 30, defeating the Bulldogs for a second time this season.
XC
Sanford competed in the Maine XC Festival of Champions in Belfast on Saturday, Sept. 30. Isaac Pelletier was the top finisher for SHS, and eighth in the freshmen race out of more than 250 runners.
Annalise Stimmell was the top finisher on the girls’ side and third in the unseeded race out of almost 300 runners. Other top finishers for Sanford included Addie Fiandaca, Eliza Allen and Sophie Therrien.
“The boys and girls team performed outstandingly with 90% of the team achieving personal best times,” said Coach Smith. “We are still hitting important benchmarks to qualify for the State Championship.”
