On Thursday, Nov. 9, Sanford High School and Regional Technical Center (SRTC) hosted a college and career fair for all juniors and seniors, including SRTC sending school students.

During Blocks 1, 2, and Spartan Time, students were invited to the Partners Bank Competition Gym to see possible options for the upcoming future with visits from colleges, companies, and major military branches.

Nearly 40 colleges from New England were in attendance, including the University of Southern Maine, Husson College, Southern New Hampshire University, Keene State, University of New England, UMass Lowell, Johnson and Wales, and more,

More than 35 companies were in attendance, including Central Maine Power, York County Sheriff’s Office, Pratt and Whitney, Eldridge Lumber, Spectrum, VIP Auto, Cliff House Maine, Stonewall Kitchen, and more.

Also in attendance were seven military branches including the Army, Army ROTC, and Army National Guard, the Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

Putting the event together was a team effort by SHS and SRTC staff including Jenn Bartlett, Deanna Farrell, Katie Schindler, and many more.

“I love the way the SHS/SRTC College and Career Fair provides exposure to different industries and pathways so that students can be aware of the range of possibilities even if it isn’t the thing they want to pursue themselves,” said Jen Bartlett, SRTC Career Planning and Dual Enrollment Coordinator.

“I think the job/career fair helped me with planning for the future because it gave me so many options and I am able to choose out of so many places that would like to hire me,” said Kris Bataran, senior at SHS and SRTC (pictured).

“It helped me a lot,” said junior Brady Goldsmith. “I’m interested in a lot of the [military] branches and I found a lot [of] colleges that I might be interested in. It helped me spread out my future.”
