Audrey Payeur, a junior at Sanford High School, was named for the All-Region team for high school field hockey.

Payeur helped lead the Spartans to an 8-6 regular season record to earn the No. 7 seed in the Class A South Playoffs.

She and 15 other players from northern New England (Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont) were chosen. The all-region team isn’t easy to get into, given the number of eligible athletes, so it says a lot about her skills in the sport.

Payeur stated the excitement she experienced when she heard she was selected was unreal because compared to other big schools that are more known for their field hockey player, someone like her from a relatively small school got recognized and it meant a lot to her and the school.

Payeur has been playing field hockey ever since she was 6 years-old. She had tried other sports in the past, “but none [have] really stuck like field hockey,” she said. She also found success in lacrosse and tennis, but field hockey remains her top priority.

She plays field hockey year-round for a Travel team and for the school, so she has a huge passion for the sport and she takes it seriously.

Payeur has sacrificed a lot of her time to go to practice after school basically every day. “Although it’s a little exhausting at some points, I enjoy it.”

Some of her favorite parts of the sport are spending time with her teammates and going to different places to play.

Throughout her season she stated that her favorite moment was when SHS went against Thornton Academy and the game went into double overtime.

Payeur has dreams of playing at a competitive Division I school. She puts a lot of pressure on herself because now she has to live up to the status she has created and keep up to that level, but is committed to achieving her goals.
