Varsity Sports Recap: Feb. 5-10

Boys Basketball

The boys defeated Deering 58-49 at home for their senior recognition game is at home against Deering on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. Makai Bougie led the team with 20 points, followed by Tanner McCann and Brady Adams with 11.

They fell to South Portland 74-46 on the road in the last game of the regular season. Dylan Gendron led with 16 points and Bougie added 13.

The boys host a home playoff game this Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7:45 pm after the girls varsity home game.

Girls Basketball

The team defeated Massabesic 31-19 on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Paige Sevigny and Shelby McCleod both led with 9 points.

They defeated South Portland 51-32 for their senior recognition game on Thursday, Feb. 8. Ava Hudson led with 15 points and Julissa McBarron added 14.

The team hosts Thornton Academy at 6:15 pm on Thursday, Feb. 15. The boys will play to follow.

Unified Basketball

The Unified Basketball team traveled to Wells High School on Tuesday, Feb. 6. They play again at home on Monday, Feb. 12.

Cheerleading

The cheer team placed eighth in the State Championship at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday, Feb. 10.    

“This season had a lot of great teams with tough competition,” said captain Natalie Lam. “I’m proud of our team and how hard we worked this year.”

The cheer team is hosting Cheers from the Heart at SHS on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2:30. The team expects to perform at 3:45.

The Indoor Track team competed in Southwesterns on Saturday, Feb. 10.

  • Craig “CJ” Grant: 4th in the SR High Jump
  • Logan Glidden: 4th in the SR Long Jump
  • Landon Gosling: 5th in Pole Vault
  • Avi Baker: 5th in JR Shot Put
  • Tucker Walker: 2nd in SR Shot Put
  • Lily Peters: 3rd in JR Triple Jump and 6th in JR Long Jump

The team competes at the State Meet this Monday, February 19th.

Wrestling

The Spartans competed in the Regional Wrestling Championship, held here at SHS on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 9 a.m. All placed athletes include:

  • Ryder LaChance (106): fourth place
  • Mason Van Gieson (120): third place
  • Isaiah Phillips (126): fourth place
  • Gabe Roberge (132): second place
  • James Chaplick (138): second place, 100th career win
  • Richie Simpson (175): first place
  • Jack Sevigny (215): third place
  • Canton Hill (285): third place

These wrestlers will compete in the State Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 17.
