Athletes of the Week: April 29 – May 4

Baseball’s Ben Gill and Track & Field’s Annalise Stimmell named Spartan Athletes of the Week

Baseball’s Ben Gill and Track & Field’s Annalise Stimmell were named by The Spartan Times and Sanford Athletics as “Athletes of the Week” for their performances April 29 – May 4.

Gill, a senior captain, pitched 7 innings against Gorham (84 pitches), allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and five strikeouts.

For the week, he went 2-4 at the plate with 1 walk, 4 runs scored, 2 RBIs, 1 stolen base, and was hit at the plate two times, getting him on base twice.

“Ben has been a true leader since the start of the season,” said Coach Kyle Bernier. “He leads by example. his work ethic is second to none, and his training in the off-season has been a game-changer. We’re looking for even more greatness out of Ben heading into the second half of the season.

Gill is committed to playing DIII Baseball and studying Business at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass.

Stimmell, a sophomore distance runner, went 3 for 3 in her events last week, taking first in the 2 mile and the 800, and was a member of the first-place finishing 4×800 relay.

“This season the girls team has shown immense growth not only in numbers, but in competitive spirit,” said Coach Anna Lane. “Several athletes have really proven that they want to do their best for the team in every event they sign up for. Annalise is a great example of this. Winning three events is no easy feat and Annalise does so with poise. We look forward to the rest of the season!”

Stimmell was a dual-athlete this fall, playing soccer and running cross country. She also plays basketball in the winter.

Congratulations to our Spartan Athletes of the Week!
