We’ve got the recap over the last week of varsity contests

Baseball
On Tuesday, May 14 the Varsity Baseball team took on Kennebunk at home where in a dramatic fashion Sanford took the game with a 1-0 walk-off victory against the Rams. Tanner McCann took the win for Sanford this game. McCann had 10 strike-outs in 8 innings and scored the winning run of the game. The game was tied at zero in the bottom of the eighth when a wild pitch got McCann to first. Brady Adams laid down a great bunt to get him to second. Tyler Sevigny followed that with an infield base hit, and with bases loaded Ben Gill hit a sacrifice fly ball to center, scoring McCann for the win.
Next the boys hosted Thornton Academy on Thursday, May 16 where after a tough fight they sadly fell to the Trojans 7-6. Zach Kassim opened the game for Sanford Varsity Spartans. Sanford scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Noah Corliss singled, Tyler Sevigny drew a walk, Beckett Barlow singled, Scott Long drew a walk, each scoring one run.
And ending the week on the road Sanford went against Falmouth on Saturday, May 18 where they came up short and fell 3-1. Ben Gill opened the game for Sanford in Falmouth. Gill surrendered five hits and three runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out seven and walking five. Gill also recorded 18 outs. Scott Long went 1-for-3 at the plate as the shortstop led the team with one run batted in. Scott Robitaille Jr went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Sanford Varsity Spartans in hits.
This week Sanford starts off on the road at Massabesic on Tuesday, May 21. Then on Thursday, May 23 they host Marshwood for their last home game of the season as well as their Senior Night! And finally they end their regular season on the road at Bonny Eagle on Saturday, May 25.
Boys Lacrosse
The Sanford/Noble Boys Lacrosse Co-op team started off their week on the road at Cheverus on Tuesday, May 14 where the boys came away with a 15-8 win. Captain Aj Anderson had 2 assists while fellow Sanford teammate Ayden Lockard had 4 goals and 1 assist. Anderson says this game was a “Good win against a Class A opponent.”
Next the boys ended their week at home against Morse on Friday, May 17 where once again they won with a score of 17-2. Ayden Lockard had 6 goals and 1 assist while AJ Anderson had 3 goals 2 assists. In other exciting news Lockard also scored his 200th career point this game from an assist from Anderson.
This week the boys host Bonny Eagle on Tuesday, May 21. Then it’s home again on Friday, May 24 this time against South Portland.
Girls Lacrosse
The Girls Lacrosse team had a busy week of three games, starting off their week at Wells on Tuesday, May 14. It was a back and forth battle, with Sanford ultimately falling 7-6. Caiti Hanselmann led the Spartans with three goals. Savannah Knight had two goals and Sadie Sevigny added one goal and one assist.
Then it was back on the road against Gorham on Thursday, May 16 where the girls sadly fell to the talented Rams 13-2. Sadie Sevigny was Sanford’s sole scorer with both of the team’s two goals. Miah Mondor had five ground balls on defense.
And finally, ending their week at home for their Annual Dedication Game, this year for the One Love Foundation, Sanford took on South Portland on Saturday, May 18. After another back and forth game, the Spartans fell short and lost 9-7. Savannah Knight had three goals, Paige Sevigny had two, and Sadie Sevigny and Mckenna Nanartowich each added one. Nanartowich and both Sevignys also tallied assists.
This week Sanford will travel to Windham on Wednesday, May 22 and then end the week at home on Saturday, May 25 against South Portland.
Softball
Last week the Spartans hosted Gorham on Monday, May 6 where they fell to the Rams 17-0. Next, they were away at Biddeford on Wednesday, May 8 where they sadly lost 25-1. The Spartans ended their week at home against Portland on Friday, May 10, where they lost 17-0.
This week the girls will be at Falmouth on Monday, May 13, then home against Westbrook on Wednesday, May 15, and end the week on the road at Massabesic on Friday, May 17.
Boys Tennis
On Monday, May 13 the boys went up against Scarborough where they sadly lost 5-0. Then on Wednesday, May 15 they traveled to Kennebunk where after a tough battle they fell to the rams 4-1. Sanford’s sole point was from Lamar Amoakohene and Zachary Parison’s double.
This week the boys will close out their regular season at home against Bonny Eagle on Tuesday, May 21 for their Senior Night.
Girls Tennis
The Girls Tennis team started off their week hosting Scarborough on Monday, May 13 where after a tough fight the girls fell 2-3. Their two points coming from Olivia Guinard and Sydney Roux in their singles.
Next the girls took on Kennebunk at home on Tuesday, May 14 where they were victorious 5-0 against the Rams. Guinard, Roux, and Sophia Tounge all won in their singles. While Audrey Cote and Audrey Payeur, as well as Ailey Mann and Ava Gendron, won in their doubles.
This week the girls are on the road where they’ll take on Bonny Eagle on Tuesday, May 21 for their last regular season match.
Boys Track & Field
The Boys Track & Field team competed against Bonny Eagle, Cheverus, and Kennebunk this past week for their first and only home meet on Tuesday, May 14. Sanford had an exciting meet with a lot of athletes being able to place.
Sanfords top placers were; Carter Buswell (1st 100, 2nd 200, 1st long jump), Arthur Bahuze (3rd 200, 1st 400), Greggory Waterman(2nd 800), Caleb Pelletier (3rd 1600), Mike Cousineau (1st 110 & 300 Hurdles, 3rd Triple jump), Craig Grant (2nd Highjump), Logan Glidden (3rd long jump, 2nd triple jump), Mason Van Gieseon (1st Pole Vault), Landon Gosling (2nd Pole Vault, 2nd Javelin), Tucker Walker (1st Discus), Nick Farrington (3rd Discus, 1st Javelin), and Jared Riley (3rd Javelin). All of Sanford’s relay teams placed in the top 3 as well.
This week, for those who have qualified, Sanford will be heading to Kennebunk on Friday, May 24 to compete in the SMAA Regionals meet.
Girls Track & Field
The Girls Track & Field team competed against Bonny Eagle, Cheverus, and Kennebunk last week at their first and only home meet of the season. These girls scored a collective 54 points falling to Bonny Eagle and Cheverus but rallied together to beat Kennebunk.
Placers for Sanford include; Samone Gallagher (1st 1600), Sophie Therrien (3rd 100 hurdles), Lily Peters (3rd Long jump, 2nd Triple jump), Abriella Parish (3rd Pole Vault), Genevieve Jean-Paul (2nd Discus, 1st Shot put).
Coach Smith states “Many athletes put together outstanding performances. We had multiple Personal Records and athletes qualifying for States and Southwesterns. It was nice to see the team come together for our final meet with tremendous support for one another.”
This week a selected few for relays and those who have qualified in their individual events will travel to Kennebunk on Friday, May 24 to compete in the SMAA Regionals meet.
