CROSS COUNTRY
Saturday (Sept. 14) the Spartans traveled to Gorham for their second meet of the season. Sanford’s top finishers include Caleb Pellieter and Jackson Stimmel from the men’s side, as well as Sophie Therrien and Eliza Allen from the women’s side.
The next meet for the Spartans will be on Thursday, September 19th at Deering High School. Then on Saturday, Sept. 21 they travel to Derryfield park, Manchester.
BOYS SOCCER
On Wednesday (Sept. 11), the boys soccer team lost 9-1 in Kennebunk. Sanford’s single goal came from Danilo Ferreira at the 17-minute mark of the game.
On Friday (Sept. 13) The boys had another tough game losing 7-0 against Westbrook in Sanford.
Their upcoming games are on Monday (Sept. 16) at 4 p.m. and they will travel to Cheverus, and at home Wednesday (Sept. 18) at 6:30 p.m. against Marshwood.
GIRLS SOCCER
On Tuesday (Sept. 10) the Spartan girls soccer team dominated the Mustangs in a shutout 8-0 victory that ended in the mercy rule. Junior Ava Hudson led the squad with four goals, freshman Mollie Puffer added two, and Annalise Stimmell and Kaylin Stuart each added on a goal apiece.
The Spartans then traveled to Thornton Academy for game # 3 of the season on Thursday
September 12 and battled hard against the Trojans. TA had a 1-0 lead at halftime in a very closely played game, but in the 2nd half they scored 2 goals to win 3-0.
The Spartans now 2-1 on the season, play the Kennebunk Rams away on Tuesday (Sept.17) and host the Deering Rams at home on Thursday (Sept. 17).
FIELD HOCKEY
Spartans Field Hockey (2-0) won an impressive game against Thornton Academy on Tuesday (Sept.10) with the final score being 4-0. Spartans scored a goal in each quarter, including in the first five minutes in each half for the 4-0 win. Sanford outshot TA 19-3 for the win, improving our record to 2-0 on the season.
Through the first 2 games, Sanford has outscored their opponents 10-1. Goals came from Audrey Payeur (2 goals), Ellie Davis (1 goal), Sadie Sevigny (1 goal). Another top contributor was Hailey Payeur with 2 assists.
On Monday (Sept. 16) the spartans hosted Bonny Eagle, Then will travel to Cheverus on Friday (September 20)
FOOTBALL
On Friday (Sept. 13) Sanford’s football team traveled to Scarborough and won 35-25. Jayden Franco got the first score for Sanford in the first quarter with a 38-yard touchdown run, and Rhylen Avery scored on a 63-yard run and a 38-yard run. In the second quarter, Scott Robitaille ran for a 6-yard touchdown, and threw a 28-yard touchdown to Joshua Callahan in the third quarter.
Sanford’s next game is at home on Friday (Sept. 20) at 7 p.m. against Massabesic.
GOLF
On Tuesday (Sept. 10), Sanford Golf (0-4) hosted the Biddeford Tigers (3-0). Top scorers of this meet for the Spartans are Brayden Baron and Noah Corliss, with both matching the score of 49, as well as Brody Baron with a score of 53. Unfortunately the Spartans took a 270-223 loss against the Tigers.
Today (Sept. 17) the Spartans will host the Massabesic Mustangs starting at 3:30pm. Then they will travel to Kennebunk on Thursday (Sept. 19) For a match against the Rams.
VOLLEYBALL
On Tuesday (Sept. 10) Sanford lost their home opener 1-3 against Gorham.
“Gorham is one of the strongest programs in the state and looking to defend their state title.”
Head Coach Ryan Geary said, also adding that Sanford started out great and took the third set.
“That is huge for our program and I would be excited to play them in late October for playoffs.”
On Thursday (Sept. 12) Sanford lost 0-3 at Biddeford. It was a great serving night with aces coming from almost all the starters which includes Gabriella Favolise, Samone Gallgher, Ellery Genest, Tracey Igiraneza, Ashley Elias and Claire Odette.
“After a tough first set, Sanford was able to push the Legendary Biddeford Tigers to a tough second and third set. With the second set being 21-25 and 20-25.” Geary said.
The upcoming games are Tuesday (Sept. 17) at 6 p.m. at York, and at home Thursday (Sept. 19) at 6 p.m. against Portland.
