CROSS COUNTRY
On Thursday (Sept. 19) the cross country team traveled to Deering High School for their 4th meet of the season. Top performers on the men’s side from this meet are Caleb Pelletier and Gabriel Waterman. From the women’s side, the top runners were Eliza Allen and Sophie Therrien.
Then on Saturday (Sept. 21) the Spartans traveled to Manchester, New Hampshire for what Coach Smith states “Is one of the toughest courses and largest meets we see in our season. The team performed extremely well in difficult weather!” Top performers were Caleb Pelletier, Jackson Stimmel, and Gabe Waterman, who continue to solidify as a pack. Isaac Pelletier is slowly coming back from injury and [we] expect him to be a big part of the second half of the season.
The girls, led by Sophie Therrien and Eliza Allen looked great and continue to improve.
On Friday (Sept. 27th), the Spartans will travel to Westbrook to race against TA, Windham, and Westbrook at 4:00.
BOYS SOCCER
On Monday (Sept. 16) the boys soccer team traveled to Cheverus and lost 5-1. Sanford’s lone goal came from Antowayne Chisholm.
On Wednesday (Sept. 18) Sanford hosted Marshwood and lost 9-1. The single goal was scored by Chisholm 45 minutes into the game.
“Cole Lebel got the start in goal. He had never played goalie before and despite the final score he did very well.” Coach John Hamilton stated.
The next game is Wednesday (Sept. 25) at Scarborough at 7 p.m.
GIRLS SOCCER
Sanford girls soccer traveled to Kennebunk High School on Tuesday (Sept. 17) to face the Rams in a close matchup. This was an extremely close game for the Spartans resulting in a tie 0-0 after a long and tough game with double overtime, and losing 2 of their starters during the game due to injury.
Thursday (Sept. 17) the Spartans had a great win against the Deering Rams with a final score of 1-0. Bella McCall scored on a deflected cross ball from Lyla Fiandaca with 4:05 remaining in the game to break a scoreless tie to give Sanford the winning lead.
This week the Spartans have 2 away games. One on Thursday (Sept. 26) at Windham, then the other on Saturday (Sept. 28) at Scarbrough.
FIELD HOCKEY
On Monday (Sept. 16) Sanford dominated in a 7-0 win against Bonny Eagle. The Spartans came out strong with a 2-0 score after the first quarter. Followed by an outstanding 5 goals scored in the second half. Star of the game was Audrey Payeur with an outstanding 3 goals and 2 assists, followed by her sister Hailey Payeur with 2 goals, 1 assist. Zoe McCann had 1 goal and 1 assist, and Ella Tederous who tagged along with a goal.
On Friday (Sept.20) Sanford traveled to Cheverus for a very competitive game. The Spartans had an amazing first half with the score staying tied at 0-0. Then at the start of the 3rd quarter the Stags went on a run finishing the game 3-0. Key player from this game for Sanford was Goalie Megan Sheppard with 11 saves.
Next up the Spartans travel to Gorham on Tuesday (Sept. 24) then, they will host Falmouth on Thursday (Sept. 26.)
FOOTBALL
On Friday (Sept. 20) Sanford lost at home to Massabesic 14-0.
Sanford’s next game is at home on Friday (Sept. 27) at 7 p.m. against Kennebunk.
GOLF
Tuesday, (Sept. 17) the Spartans hosted Massabesic in a tough match resulting in a loss 256 -272 with the best scores from Drew Vessels (48) and Brody Baron (52)
The Spartans Visited the Kennebunk Rams at Webhannet Thursday afternoon (Sept. 19). The Rams prevailed with a total score of 228 to 257 and 12 1/2 to 1/2. Despite the loss, best scores from the Spartans were from Brayden Baron (47) and Luke Genron (51).
On Tuesday (Sept. 24th) Sanford Golf hosts Noble, then on Thursday (Sept. 26th) the Spartans will travel to Marshwood for a match at 3:45
VOLLEYBALL
Sanford’s volleyball team traveled to York on Tuesday (Sept. 17) and lost 1-3. Samone Gallagher led the team in kills with 9, Ellery Genest led in assists with 10 and Leah Soucy led in digs with 16.
On Thursday (Sept. 19) Sanford hosted Portland and won 3-0. Gallagher led the team in kills with 9, Gabriella Favolise and Genest led in assists each having 8, Soucy and Gallagher led in digs, Soucy with 15 and Gallagher with 11.
