CROSS COUNTRY
On Friday (Sept. 27), the Spartans will travel to Westbrook to race against TA, On Friday (Sept. 27) the Spartans traveled to Westbrook. The top performer from this race was Caleb Pelletier who had an outstanding finish with a time of 19.17.55 and finished the race second overall. From the ladies’ side, top performers were Sophie Therrien and Eliza Allen.
The next meet for the Spartans will be on Saturday, October 5th in Belfast., and Westbrook at 4:00.
BOYS SOCCER
Sanford boys soccer played at Scarborough on Thursday (Sept. 25) and lost 8-0.
According to coach John Hamilton, the game was very close in the first half with Sanford being down just 2-0 at halftime, and Sanford caught Scarborough offsides 19 times.
On Saturday (Sept. 28) Sanford hosted Bonny Eagle and lost 6-2.
“Kane Tierney fed a beautiful pass to Eli Laurendeau who put it in the back of the net,” said assistnant coach Hamilton about Sanford’s first goal within the first minute of the game. He also said that the score was close going into halftime at 3-2.
The next games are Wednesday (Oct. 2) at Portland at 5 p.m. and Friday (Oct. 4) in Sanford against Thornton Academy at 6:30 p.m.
GIRLS SOCCER
Thursday (Sept. 26) due to bad weather the Spartans game against Windham was rescheduled.
On Saturday (Sept. 28) the Spartans traveled to Scarborough which resulted in a 1-0 loss, but was a well fought game by the Spartans. Goalie Sophie Olivio played a tough game keeping the score close for the Spartans finishing with 6 saves, as well as key defenders; Savannah Knight, Kya Duprey, Kenzie Taylor, and Natalie Nadeau who all played great keeping this game close for the Spartans.
Coach McCall states “We battled really hard against a tough Scarborough team. We had some chances to score, but couldn’t find the back of the net. We’ll keep working at it!”
Tuesday, (Oct. 1) due to no school, the Spartans game against Falmouth was rescheduled. Next they host Westbrook on Thursday, October 3rd.
Next for the Spartans, they have 2 home games, Monday (Sept. 30) against South Portland/Westbrook and Wednesday (Oct.2) they host Deering.. 26) at Windham, then the other on Saturday (Sept. 28) at Scarborough.
FIELD HOCKEY
On Tuesday (Sept.24) the Spartans traveled to Gorham for a tough matchup against the Rams. The final score resulted in a 3-0 loss. Top performers from this game included; Linda-Rose Krol, Logan Muise, Audrey Payeur, Hailey Payeur, Paige Sevigny, Sadie Sevigny, and Megan Sheppard all had strong performances for Sanford.
Coach Kane stated “This was a hard-fought battle between two strong teams. Each team limited the other’s scoring opportunities, allowing only 4 shots on goal each. Unfortunately for the Spartans, Gorham was able to score with a couple of great shots, but credit has to go to our entire defensive unit for doing a fantastic job of keeping the action out of our defensive circle. We were able to mount a strong attack, controlling possession for most of the second half, but unable to convert that work into goals.”
Due to bad weather the Spartans game against Falmouth Thursday (Sept. 26) was rescheduled.
Next for the Spartans, they have 2 home games, Monday (Sept. 30) against South Portland/Westbrook and Wednesday (Oct.2) they host Deering.
FOOTBALL
Sanford hosted Kennebunk on Sept. 27 and lost 48-20. Scott Robitaille ran for two touchdowns in the loss.
Sanford’s next game is on Friday (Oct. 4) at Marshwood at 6 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 27) at 7 p.m. against Kennebunk.
GOLF
On Tuesday (Sept. 24th) Sanford Golf On Tuesday (Sept. 24th) The Sanford Spartans visited Noble Nights for a varsity golf match at Sanford Country Club. The Spartans prevailed in a close match getting their first victory of the season! The top performers from this match were Braden Baron with a score of 44 and Luke Gendron who scored a 48.
Due to bad weather on Thursday (Sept. 26) weather, the Spartans match against marshwood was rescheduled.
Next match for the Spartans is traveling to Massabesic on Thursday (Oct. 3rd). Noble, then on Thursday (Sept. 26th) the Spartans will travel to Marshwood for a match at 3:45
VOLLEYBALL
Upcoming games On Tuesday (Sept. 24) Sanford’s volleyball team traveled to Noble and won 3-1. Samone Gallagher led the team in kills with 13, also having 6 digs and 4 aces. Ellery Genest led in assists with 12, along with 7 digs and 6 aces. Leah Soucy led in digs with 19, Gabriella Favolise had 4 kills and 9 assists.
On Thursday (Sept. 26) Sanford hosted Yarmouth and lost 0-3. Gallagher had 11 kills and 8 digs, Soucy had 10 digs.
Upcoming games are on Tuesday (Oct. 1) in Sanford at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday (Oct. 8) at Massabesic at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 24) at Noble at 6 p.m. and Thursday (Sept. 26) in Sanford against Yarmouth at 6:30 p.m.
