CROSS COUNTRY
Saturday (Oct. 5th) the Spartans traveled to Belfast to compete against 19 other teams. The top performer from this race was Caleb Pelletier with an outstanding time of 17:56:26.
Next up, the Spartans will travel to Massabesic to race against Marshwood, Noble, and Massabesic on Friday (Oct. 11th)
BOYS SOCCER
On Wednesday (Oct. 2), the Sanford’s boys soccer team traveled to Portland and lost 9-0, but did hold Portland scoreless through the first 27 minutes. On Friday (Oct. 4) Sanford hosted Thornton Academy and lost 5-0.
The next games are Wednesday (Oct. 9) in Sanford against South Portland at 6:30 p.m. and Friday (Oct. 11) at Massabesic at 5:30 p.m.
GIRLS SOCCER
Thursday (Oct. 3) the Spartans hosted Westbrook which resulted in a 5-0 win. Ava Hudson had 2 goals and an assist as Sanford (4-2-1) built a 4-0 halftime lead against the Blue Blazes. Annalise Stimmell added 2 goals and Addie Fiandaca scored for the Spartans. Bella McCall and Brielle Landry added assists for Sanford.
Sophie Olivo earned the shutout in goal for Sanford. Savannah Knight, Kenzie Taylor, Kya Duprey, and Natalie Nadeau led the Sanford defensive effort.
Saturday (Oct. 5) the Spartans had a tough matchup against Falmouth. After a long-fought game, the Spartans fell short losing 1 – 0. Olivo had an excellent game in goal. The midfield line excelled, led by Hudson, Fiandaca, Stimmell, and McCall.
The back line played outstanding as well, led by Knight, Duprey, Taylor, and Nadeau.
Coach McCall states, “We limited a very talented Falmouth team to 1 goal. We came close to scoring, but couldn’t put it in the net this game.”
“The girls are working very hard to play together as a team and trying to improve offensively and defensively. We are making progress and getting closer to how we are trying to play.”
This week the Spartans have 2 home games, the first on Tuesday (Oct. 8) against Bonny Eagle, then on Thursday (Oct. 10), they host Biddeford.
FIELD HOCKEY
Tuesday (Oct. 1) the Spartans hosted Southportland Westbrook, resulting in a 4 – 1 win. The Spartans started off the game strong leading 2 – 0 after the first quarter with goals by Ali Long, and both goals assisted by Hailey Payeur. In the third quarter, the Spartans scored 2 more goals, from Ali Long and Miah Mondor. Audrey Payeur and Zoe McCann each added an assist
Wednesday, (Oct. 2) Sanford field hockey hosted Portland/ Deering. This game ended in a shutout for Megan Sheppard, helping the Spartans win 9 – 0. Goals from this game were from Audrey Payeur (3), Ali Long (2), Olivia Tremblay (2), Hailey Payeur, and Ellie Davis. Audrey Payeur also led the Spartans with 3 assists.
Thursday (Oct. 10) the Spartans Host Kennebunk for their homecoming game at 5:00. On Saturday (Oct. 12) Sanford Field hockey will travel to Biddeford for an early game.
FOOTBALL
On Friday (Oct. 4) Sanford’s football team visited Marshwood and lost 16-40. A notable performance is Rhylen Avery who ran for 77 yards and 1 touchdown.
Sanford’s next game is on Friday (Oct. 11) in Sanford against Dover at 7 p.m.
GOLF
Tuesday (Oct. 1) Sanford traveled to Dutch Elm Golf to face the Mustangs of Massabesic High School. The Mustangs prevailed, beating the Spartans 242 to 256 and 12 to 1. Top performers from this match were Brayden Baron and Luke Gendron both scoring 48.
Thursday, Oct. 3rd The Sanford Spartans traveled to Dutch Elm Golf Course to face the Tigers of Biddeford. The Tigers came out on top 228 to 255 and 11 to 2. The best scores from this match were a 45 from Brayden Baron and a 28 from Luke Gendron
The next match for the Spartans is on Monday (Oct. 7), which is the Boys qualifier meet at Natanis.
VOLLEYBALL
On Tuesday (Oct. 1) Sanford’s volleyball team was meant to host Kennebunk but the game was postponed, and on Thursday (Oct. 3) Sanford visited Massabesic and won 3-2 after going down 0-2. Coach Ryan Geary credits Ashley Elias for an impressive performance to help come back.
“Coming back from 0-2 is hard. The team has great heart,” Geary said.
Upcoming games are on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at Deering at 6 p.m. and Thursday (Oct. 10) in Sanford against South Portland at 6 p.m.
