SANFORD, Maine – The National Honor Society (NHS) is spreading holiday cheer by holding a ‘Letters to Santa’ initiative to help with correspondence to and from the North Pole.
On Nov. 22, NHS members went to the Goodall and Springvale libraries, which are both local libraries, and placed the decorated mailboxes along with the pre – made letters for the kids to write on. Students will collect these letters on Dec. 9.
As the children filled out the letters to Santa, they were asked to include their name, age, mailing address, how nice they were this year, a present they want and something fun they did this year, along with a drawing.
On Dec. 16, NHS members will be meeting to respond to the letters and send them back off to the children.

Lexi Hayward, Vice President of NHS, has been helping coordinate this event and has been gathering participation to make this event a success.
In making this event a success, she said they have been receiving a lot of participation from NHS members in making the letters and helping to decorate the mailboxes.
This event is something that the NHS has done a few years ago, and is something they decided to bring back this year.
Hayward said, “This was an event we received outstanding feedback for and an event that everyone wanted to collectively participate in.”
NHS will be holding multiple events during this holiday season and is looking forward to spreading holiday cheer in Sanford.
