Boys Basketball
On Saturday, Jan. 4, the Spartans traveled to Greely and lost 56-43. The top performer was Luke Gendron with 19 points, which included 5 three pointers.
On Tuesday, Jan. 7, they traveled to Deering and lost 76-56. Top performances came from Dylan Gendron with 15 points and Ryan Alexander with 11 points, both of them also had 3 three pointers.
On Thursday, Jan. 9, they hosted Thornton Academy and lost 62-51. Top performances came from Dylan Gendron with 13 points and Luke Gendron 11.
The Spartans’ next game is at home Tuesday Jan. 14, against Cheverus.
Girls Basketball
On Tuesday Jan. 7, The Spartans travelled to Noble and won 49-19. Top performances were Mollie Puffer with a double double with 15 points and 12 rebounds and Paige Sevigny with a double double as well with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
On Thursday Jan. 9, they travelled to Thornton Academy and won 55-49. Top performances were from Puffer with 20 points, Ava Hudson with 12 points and Sevigny with 10 points.
On Friday January 10 they hosted Bonny Eagle and won 47-18. The top performer was Sevigny with 16 points.
The Spartans next game is Tuesday Jan. 14, at Cheverus.
Unified Basketball
Unified Basketball opens up their competition season on Friday, Jan. 17 at home against York at 3:30 in the Partners Bank Gymnasium.
Boys Indoor Track
The boys and girls track team competed on Jan. 9 against Deering, Marshwood, Scarborough, and Westbrook. Top performances include:
- 1st Logan Glidden: Long jump
- 2nd Isaac Pelletier and 4th Caleb Pelletier: 600m dash
- 2nd Ethan Davie: shot put
- 3rd Jack Van Gieson: pole vault
- 4th Caleb Pelletier: 400 meter dash
They had a quick turnaround and competed on Jan. 11 against Cheverus, Falmouth, Kennebunk, Westbrook. Finishers in the top five of their events include:
- 1st Elijah Laurendeau: 400 meter dash
- 1st Isaac Pelletier: 800 meter
- 1st Logan Glidden: long jump & triple jump
- 1st Jack Van Gieson: pole vault
- 2nd Ethan Davie: shot put

Girls Indoor Track

- 4th Mattea Peters: 55 meter dash
- 4th Lily Peters: 200 meter dash
They had a quick turnaround and competed on Jan. 11 against Cheverus, Falmouth, Kennebunk, Westbrook. Finishers in the top five of their events include:
- 1st: 4×800 meter relay (Bella McCall, Eliza Allen, Ava Corliss, Genevieve Deschambeault)
- 1st Georgia Whitman: shot put
- 3rd Mattea Petters: 200 meter dash
Wrestling
On Wednesday, Jan. 8, Sanford lost a tough battle against Marshwood with a final score of 45-36. As the meet went on, the team overcame their defeat to win against Biddeford/TA with a final score of 45-29.
“The loss to Marshwood put us on the bubble of qualification for the State Dual Tournament,” Coach Smitty said. “We had to beat Cheverus [in the next meet] in order to qualify.”
On Saturday, Jan. 11, The Spartans came through and took home a win after a tough battle against Cheverus and Bonny Eagle, beating Cheverus 45-29 and Bonny Eagle 50-24.
According to Smitty, the team gained momentum from Eli Rumery’s win for a pin at 120 lbs. Eli bumped up from JV a to Varsity at the last minute due to an injury.
“He stepped up and the team responded with big pins over the next few matches. Cole Lebel sealed the win with a decision at 157. The match win was a big family effort!”

Next up is a dual at Wells vs. Wells and Kennebunk on Wednesday 15, and on Saturday the 18 the Spartans will be traveling to Timberlane.
