SANFORD, Maine – As second semester approaches, it’s important students are aware of the options to adjust their schedules for the spring. Here is what students and families should know about SHS Add/Drop through the School Counseling Department.
According to School Counseling, students should remember that there are some blocks where there is very little room for students to change their schedules because courses are full, including study halls. Students should be aware that school counselors may not be able to accommodate their requests as a result.
Some appropriate reasons to change a class include; having a same class twice because you can’t earn the same credit, you don’t have all the prerequisites, a junior or senior wants early release or late arrival, or they need a lateral change which means exchanging one block for another class during the same block, not moving the whole schedule. A person can get any elective exchanged for another.
However, according to head of Sanford High School Counselling, Renee Bresnahan “ Student cannot change their schedules to have a different lunch, to get a different teacher, because they dislike someone in their class, etc.”
Here is a link to sign up for add drop, which does not go live until the Friday before add/drop begins, which is Jan. 27 and it goes until Jan. 29. The form has to be completed in order to be seen, and you can only be seen once.
Juniors and Seniors who are in good academic standing are eligible to apply for early release/late arrival. You will need to check your email for more information.
