Cheer
The Sanford Varsity Cheer Team is already well into their post-season, having competed in the SMAA cheer competition on Saturday, Jan. 24. The team placed third out of 13, great job, ladies! On Saturday, Feb. 1, the team competed at Bangor High School for the Regional Cheer Championships, placing fifth!
“We are hoping to have a hit clean routine and place top half, which would be top eight,” said Coach Catrina Wade about her hopes for the team in the state competition. We also asked Coach Wade about some athletes who have been a big part of the team’s success. “Maddie Osbourne, she’s really dedicated and always there, and always pushing the girls to do better. Our captains, Natalie Lam and Taylor Coffey, they’re always there and pushing their teammates to be better.”
Good luck to our Spartans as they compete in the State competition on Saturday, Feb. 8! If you would like to support the team, come to the Augusta Civic Center to watch them compete at 5 p.m.
Girls Basketball
The girls had their last regular season game on Thursday, Feb. 6, winning against the Massabesic Mustangs.
“We have some things to improve in terms of gameplay. I’m very hopeful for Paige Sevigny, Sadie Sevigny, Addie Fiandaca, and Ava Hudson, I think they’ll be able to score lots of points in the playoffs, and on Thursday as well,” said Coach Kearson about his expectations for the playoff season.

The boys’ team has its last regular season game on Friday, Feb. 7 at home against Massabesic for senior night.
“I feel really good about our team. We’ve proven we can compete with the best in the state, and I have full confidence in every player. If we put together a strong 32 minutes next week, I believe we can win our quarterfinal game and head to Portland for the semifinals,” said the boys’ basketball coach, Jake Mills.
