SANFORD, Maine – On Feb. 13 and 14, the SRTC Greenhouse is selling hand-tied bouquets outside the cafeteria. They can also take pre-orders at plantsplus@sanford.org.
Flowers will be priced by stem and type of flower. A small bouquet will cost around $6. There will also be some household plants from their greenhouse available to buy.
All money raised will go towards their activity account for field trips. They are going on a field trip in May to compete in a Future Farmers of America competition.
All plants grown by the horticulture SRTC are organic.
It is also “seed starting season” for their next sale in the spring, where they will sell vegetables, flowers such as pansies and herbs, said the instructor, Pamela Durack.
There are many things to look forward to when applying to this SRTC program, said Durack and her students.
In this program, students can earn both high school and college credit.
Besides growing plants, they do a variety of different things, such as taking lots of field trips and working with small machinery. They learn about marketing, business and pesticides as well.
They also have fish, make wreaths, have food, can take things home, and work with other SRTC programs such as culinary and cosmetology.
They do a lot and have a lot of fun as well, said the students.
