SANFORD, Maine – Sanford Chorus has seen a busy few weeks that included performing in a concert and enjoying an Opera Maine Performance.

The Spring Sing is the spring semester concert that is performed by chorus students at Sanford High School. It was held in the evening on March 5 in the Sanford Performing Arts Center.

The songs performed at the concert included “Over and Over” by Jennifer Lucy Cook, sung by the Chamber Singers. As well as “Lineage” by Andrea Ramsey, sung by Select Treble Choir; and “Hope Lingers On” by Andrea Ramsey, and performed by the Sanford Chorale.

Director of Choirs, Ryan Geary, was pleased with Chorus’s performance, noting he thought it was one of the best concerts he has put on here.

“[Choosing songs] starts with what’s appropriate for students to sing, then it is will the students learn and enjoy performing, then it’s will the audience learn and enjoy, and last but unfortunately not least…I need to like it.”

In addition to the recent concert, on Feb. 28, about 50 of the chorus students enjoyed a performance from Opera Maine and opera students from the Osher School of Music at USM.

The experience was a showcase, a performance that students are not used to. The show was directed by Dr. Malinda Haslett and Professor Scott Wheatly, who happens to be Mr. Geary’s Voice teacher. On soprano, was March Steigher, on tenor, Jared Vigue, and Nick Sutton was the bass.

Opera Maine is promoting their upcoming musical performance, Sweeney Todd. Anyone under the age of 18 can go and see the show for free!

Upcoming events to see more chorus students perform include SHS Theatre Club’s “Grease” musical, running March 28 -30 at Sanford High School, and the Chorus Cabaret on April 19 at Nasson Little Theatre. The Spring Concert is slated for May 6.
