SHS Concert Band and Wind Ensemble Perform with Casco Bay Wind Symphony

Collaboration to celebrate Music In Our Schools Month

SANFORD – On Monday March 17, there was a joint performance from Sanford High School’s Concert Band and Casco Bay Wind Symphony. This collaboration was in efforts to to celebrate Music In Our Schools Month.

The Casco Bay Wind Symphony performed major works from “The Stars Wars Trilogy” as well as “The Big Blue Marble” and “Also Sprach Zarathustra” by Richard Strauss, arr. Robert Longfield. 

When they combined into one big performance, the bands played “Space Journey” by Brad Ciechomski, a native Mainer. 

Around 50 students from Sanford High School attended this and performed “Down a Country Lane” by Aaron Copeland arr Merlin Patterson. They also performed “Pirates!” by Travis J Weller. 

“It was a great experience to play music with the Casco Bay Wind Symphony, the experience was fun and the band learned from the experience,” commented Gary Demers, Sanford High School sophomore. 

Hailey Franceour, Sanford High School’s band director conducted both the High School and the joint band performance. Dr. William Kinne from Osher School of Music at University of Southern Maine conducted for the Casco Bay Wind Symphony. 

There was a variety of musical talent in this showcase. The Casco Bay Wind Symphony had Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Strings, and so much more. The performers have careers ranging from Veterinarian, Retail Specialists, Biochemist and a variety of educators.
