SANFORD, Maine – On Tuesday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 19, four juniors, the four officers and advisors (Heather English and Elizabeth White) took off to Orono, Maine for a statewide NHS conference.
The theme of this year’s convention was the “Pursuit of Growth.”
On Tuesday evening, students attended a banquet dinner, a Keynote presentation and a dance. The banquet was at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer, Maine. Students were required to wear business casual attire.

On Wednesday at the University of Maine at Orono, students participated in a gallery walk, listened to candidate speeches as well as more Keynote presentations, did breakout sessions during lunch and swore in the new board of candidates.
The speakers and presenters had the theme of giving back to the community, one of the main goals of NHS.
“It was super cool to meet NHS members from other schools and learn about the service projects of other NHS chapters in Maine,” said junior Isabella McCall.
They were also able to learn about the projects of other NHS groups throughout the state to get inspiration for future projects here.
One of NHS’ recent projects is hosting the Spartan Showcase, which will take place on April 16, 2025. Admission is $5 per person or $2 for students and seniors.
The National Honor Society is a group for juniors and seniors who showcase the four pillars of NHS: leadership, service, scholarship and character.
