SANFORD, Maine – On Tuesday, April 8, The Red Cross partnered with Sanford High School’s NHS to host a blood drive.

Students and staff from the high school donated their blood to help people in need.

“Donating blood is one of the simplest ways to make a real difference,” said social studies teacher Peter O’Brien, who participated in the blood drive. “A small contribution from us can save a life when it’s needed most.”

Donors gave about a pint of blood, and those who did Power Red gave two pints.

There was a large turnout and all time slots to give blood were filled.

NHS student volunteers took shifts throughout the day to help the students and staff who had their blood drawn.

The volunteers also gave out snacks, water and juices. They also ran the reception table and checked people in. Students also helped with setting up and taking down the tables and chairs.

The National Honor Society is a group for juniors and seniors who showcase the four pillars of NHS: leadership, service, scholarship and character.
