Spring Varsity Sports Recap: April 28 – May 2, 2025

BASEBALL

On Tuesday, April 29, the Spartans hosted Scarborough and lost 13-1.

On Saturday, May 3, they travelled to Westbrook and won 12-2. Some notable performances came from Brady Adams who didn’t allow an earned run for over 5 innings and Ryan Alexander who was 3 for 4 batting with 2 RBIs.

On Wednesday, May 7, they hosted Bonny Eagle and won 10-1. Notable performances came from Drew Vessels who went 4 for 5 batting, Matthew Hebert had 3 RBIs and Noah Corliss had a double and 2 RBIs.

Their next games are on Thursday, May 8 at 4:30 pm at Biddeford, Saturday, May 10 at 11 am at Deering.

GIRLS LACROSSE

This week, the Spartans hosted Bonny Eagle on Tuesday, April 29, defeating the Scots 13-2. Sadie Sevigny, Mckenna Nanartowich and Ali Long all produced hat tricks. Savannah Knight added two goals, Paige Sevigny added one, and Sophie Olivo tacked on an assist. Kya Duprey led the defense with four forced turnovers and four ground balls. 

On Thursday, May 1, the team traveled to Biddeford, defeating the Tigers for the first time in program history in a decisive 13-5 victory. Sadie Sevigny paced the Spartans with five goals. Additional goal scores included Paige Sevigny, Long, Knight, Nanartowich, and Zoey McCann. The Spartans also had five different players tally assists. McCann also collected a career-high seven ground balls.

The game against Traip Academy, originally scheduled for May 6, is rescheduled to May 14 due to weather. The Spartans host Deering on Friday, May 9 for a varsity-only match up (no JV game).

BOYS TENNIS

The boys tennis team fell to South Portland 5-0 on Tuesday, April 29.

The girls’ tennis team hosted South Portland on Tuesday, April 29, at 4 p.m. The Spartans won 5-0.

The girls’ tennis team also competed on Thursday, May 1, at Windham High School, where they fell to the Eagles, 5-0.

Their upcoming matches are all at Sanford on May 2, 5 and 7 against Deering, Portland and Marshwood.

The boys’ track and field team hosted Bonny Eagle, Deering and Thornton Academy. The team placed fourth overall and had athletes place in multiple events. The highlights from this meet include: 

  • 1600m- Isaac Pelletier, 1st
  • 3200m- Michael Mastraccio, 4th
  • 4x100m- Tyson Kimball, Gabriel Roberge, Logan Gosling and Dezmond Donegan, 3rd
  • 4x400m- Caleb Pelletier, Rhylen Avery, Lukas McLean and Richie Simpson 2nd
  • 4x800m- Caleb Pelletier, Gabe Waterman, Alex Lemay, and Isaac Pelletier, 1st
  • Triple Jump- Logan Legere, 5th
  • Pole Vault- Jack VanGieson, 2nd Jordyn Thoreaux, 4th, Gabe Williams, 5th

The track and field team will host their next meet at Alumni Stadium on April 30.

GIRLS OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

On April 30, the Girls’ Track and Field team competed at Alumni Stadium against Bonny-Eagle, Deering and Thornton Academy. The team took home their first meet win in over two years. Some key performances from this meet include:

  • 100m- Jaslinn Johnson, 2nd
  • 400m- Mattea Peters, 2nd, Claire Pordon, 3rd
  • 800m- Annalise Stimmell, 2nd
  • 1600m- Samone Gallagher, 4th
  • Triple Jump- Lily Peters, 2nd, Ashtyn Gagnon, 3rd
  • Discus- Georgia Whitman, 1st, Sam Dunbar, 2nd, Hazel Marcinkowski, 3rd, Olivia Farrington, 4th
  • Javelin- Olivia Farrington, 1st, Summer Charron, 3rd, Georgia Whitman, 4th, Isabella McCall, 5th
  • Shot put- Ryenn Baker, 2nd, Georgia Whitman, 3rd, Kylie Spaulding, 4th, Sam Dunbar, 5th
  • 4x400m- Isabella McCall, Eliza Allen, Claire Pordon and Annalise Stimmell
  • 4x800m- Samone Gallagher, Eliza Allen, Addie Fiandaca and Annalise Stimmell
SOFTBALL

On April 28, Sanford traveled to Noble and won 22-1. Notable performances were from Mitchell with seven RBI’s on only four hits and had an inside the park homerun. Autumn Liston, Rylee Lapierre, Linda-Rose Krol, Hannah Labbe, Bree Tyler, Taiga Poppas, and Faith Martel all scored one run in the fifth inning. And Martel pitching only allowed seven hits, struck out six batters and walked three.

Due to weather and one city not having enough players, there have not been any games since April 28.

Their next game is on Saturday, May 10 at 11 am at Windham.
