Sanford High School recently held its Spring Art Show and Concert on Tuesday, May 6. The event started at 5 p.m. with an art show in the school’s Agora and Library, where students’ artwork will be on display. After that, the Spring Concert began at 6 p.m. in the Sanford Performing Arts Center, with performances by the school’s band and choir.

The Art Show featured a wide variety of work, like drawings, paintings, photography, ceramics, and digital designs. Visitors will have their chance to walk through the displays in the schools Agora and library, where student artwork will be arranged in “gallery style”.

After the art show, the Spring Concert started in the Sanford Performing Arts Center. The school band, jazz band, and choir performed a mix of songs that they’ve been preparing over the past several weeks. The event is a chance for students to share their talents with family, friends, and the other wider community, and it serves as a special way to wrap up the school year in the arts.

SANFORD, Maine – The Advanced Placement (AP) Art students recently submitted their portfolios to the College Board on Friday, May 2. While this doesn’t include a presentation, some of their art is showcased at the Art Show in the Sanford High School.

In the AP art class, students have to make portfolios with 20 pieces, and other than that, the class is a lot of work. There are eight students in the class, and six of them are seniors, and five of them are at the top of the class.

A student from the class, senior Corinna Vitale, said, “It’s a really valuable class. It was very intense and a lot of hard work, but I learned so much from it, and I’m really glad I took the class.”

Students had to work on other projects and assignments, like sketch booking, a still life, and a self-portrait. They also had a trip to the Boston Aquarium to make a project about marine keystone species, but the portfolio was the main project of the whole year.

The meaning behind the portfolios is that they’re based on a sustained investigation of a student’s interest. For example, last year, a student’s friend did a portfolio based on her family immigrating to another country, and then another student did it based on the ocean, and there are different things you can do for your portfolio based on but it will need to make 15 pieces on what you’re focusing on and 5 pieces of how good you are in art.
