SANFORD, Maine – Auditions for Honors Chorus and Honors Chamber Singers are being held for grades nine through 12, throughout May.

Auditions can be scheduled by appointment during Spartan time or after school with Choral Director Ryan Geary through May.

Auditions include singing The Star-Spangled Banner in a key of your choice, an ear training and pitch matching test, vocal exercises, and for Chamber singers, showing an ability to sight read. After the audition process, you will have a short interview with Geary.

Geary said, “If you want a high level of music, a rigorous course load, and you want to be a part of something truly amazing, I think it’s worth auditioning.”

Honors Treble Choir is open for soprano and alto singers in grades nine through 12 for Sanford High School students. Members get the chance to develop their vocal techniques, go through ear training, and improve their music literacy through challenges, performances, and opportunities in leadership.

Honors Chamber Singers is open for grades nine through 12 as any voice part. Members get the chance to strengthen their vocal techniques and have access to training through challenging repertoire and public performances.

These two courses will be offered as full-credit classes rather than clubs or after-school programs like last year.

Joining an Auditioned Ensemble allows you to represent Sanford at festivals and events across Maine and build high-level musicianship skills. Geary stated, “The interview process will get you ready for any auditions for high-level musical opportunities.”
