Track & Field’s Georgia Whitman and Baseball’s Drew Vessels named Spartan Athletes of the Week

Track and Field’s Georgia Whitman and Baseball’s Drew Vessels have been chosen as this week’s athletes of the week.
Georgia Whitman, a junior, scored 1st in shot put, 2nd in javelin, and 3rd in discus, helping boost the Spartans past the Kennebunk Rams. Whitman additionally has qualified for SMAA’s for all three events and has provisionally qualified for states in discus and javelin.
“Georgia has become a significant leader for us in the throwing events.” Said Coach Smith. “Teaching younger athletes every day while simultaneously pushing herself towards her goals. It has been nice to see her always hungry to get better.”
Baseball’s Drew Vessels, a freshman, went 4-7 against Bonny Eagle, earning 3 singles and 1 double, and scored 2 runs. He also stole four bases and earned 1 walk.
“Drew is an essential part of the lineup and a key player in the middle infield,” said Coach Bernier. “He is a spark plug for the team and a nightmare for opposing catchers trying to throw him out.”
