SANFORD, Maine – Sanford High School students went on a field trip called Doc 4 a Day, in collaboration with Tufts University School of Medicine and Southern Maine Health Care on Tuesday, May 20.

The students were mostly sophomores, along with several juniors and seniors. Students got to learn about different options to join the health field and received education and resources. They also got to work with medical students who taught them more about the field.

“Doc 4 a Day was so much fun and I got to experience what a day in my future could look like,” said sophomore Paige Sevigny. “Talking to multiple medical students was amazing and it helped me understand the process a lot more.”

They got to do a lot of hands-on activities, such as practicing giving someone stitches on fake skin.

They also did simulations with mannequins that could breath, blink, had a pulse and a heart rate.

“I feel like my favorite part about doing Doc 4 a Day was practicing giving someone stitches,” said Alex Fraize, a senior who went on the trip. “While the simulations with the mannequin were fun and funny, I really liked the techniques that we practiced and how we were taught it with the supplies they gave us.”

SHS is hoping to continue this field trip annually.

The students who attended are Alex Fraize, Meredith Schoenherr, Annalise Stimmell, Hiba Mahdi, Veerasak Sungvean, Paige Sevigny, Jayden Sullivan, Kaylee Gauthier, Nathan Maloney, Ava Fagan, Belinda Rivard, Isabella Garneau, Yashvi Patel and Emersyn Whitlock.
