New teacher feature: meet Mr. Scali

By Ami Kane

Welcome back to The Spartan Times! We have a new teacher feature! This week, we have Mr. Scali, an in-school suspension and student success teacher who also joined us this year. We asked him a few questions to get to know a little bit more about him—check out his answers below!

Q: What made you want to become a teacher?
Mr. Scali: I had a high school football coach who also taught history, and he inspired me to go into teaching. I also love seeing kids make connections and understand things in new ways—it makes teaching worth it.

Q: What’s the best perk of being a teacher?
Mr. Scali: Having the summers off and being able to build connections with students to see them grow as people and learners.

Q: Where are you from?
Mr. Scali: Menifee, California.

Q: What grades do you teach?
Mr. Scali: I’m the In-School Suspension / Student Success Center teacher.

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Mr. Scali: Either Greece or Italy.

Q: Could you make it through the day without caffeine?
Mr. Scali: Nope—a Celsius a day keeps the doctors away!

Q: What were you involved in during high school?
Mr. Scali: I tried to be involved as much as possible: I was a two-sport athlete (football and basketball) and joined a few clubs as well.

We’re so happy to have Mr. Scali at Sanford High School! If you happen to see him around the school, make sure to say hi and give him a warm welcome him to the Spartan community! Stay tuned for the next “Teacher Feature”.
