A Week Full of Fun, Themes, and School Pride

SANFORD — Homecoming Spirit Week is just around the corner, and from October 6–11, students, staff, and families will come together to celebrate a week packed with school pride, themed dress-up days, and exciting home games; this year’s theme is Disney+. During this week, high school students compete grade against grade to win the honor of the spirit stick, a tradition passed down from generations of alumni.

Each grade earns points by: dressing up for spirit days, attending weeknight sporting events, painting large posters and crash-through banners, building floats, and participating in the parade.

Above is the 2024 student section from the Varsity Football Game on Friday.

Kicking off on Monday, October 6, students will channel their inner celebrity with “Adam Sandler Day,” dressing in the laid-back, oversized styles made famous by the comedy legend himself. There is no evening sports game scheduled for Monday.

On Tuesday, October 7, the school transforms into a battle of the parental archetypes with “Soccer Mom vs. BBQ Dad” — students are encouraged to dress in either role, adorning aprons, spatulas, fanny packs, and more. That night, students will be scored on their attendance and participation in the Volleyball at 7 p.m. and the Boys Soccer at 7 p.m. With two events in one night, reinforcements are recommended. The spirit night theme for both games is USA.

Wednesday, October 8, will bring a nostalgic wave of Disney magic with the Disney Channel Theme Day. Each class represents a different Disney genre:

  • Freshmen: Disney Junior
  • Sophomores: Marvel
  • Juniors: Disney Animation
  • Seniors: Pixar

The girls’ soccer team will host its home event at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, where attendees are encouraged to participate by wearing Neon.

Last year students raced by rolling beneath folding tables at the school’s Pep Rally.

The excitement continues into Thursday, October 9, with Red and White Day — a spirited celebration of school colors that leads into the traditional Pep Rally to close the day. Thursday night is Field Hockey’s home competition at 6:30 p.m. Please wear your Frat-themed clothes.

Finally, the week culminates on Friday, October 10, with the Homecoming Parade at 4:00 PM. The public is invited to park by 3:30 before the road closes. The parade will start and finish at the tennis courts on Alumni Boulevard (See map below). This year, Student Council is excited to invite everyone to stay for a Block Party between the parade and Football Game where clubs and activities will host vendors and opportunities to share your spirit. Finally, Football game at 7 p.m. is where the winner of the spirit stickk will be announced. Make sure to wear red and white to represent our school colors!

Last but not least, Don’t forget that Saturday, October 11, is the dance, which runs from 7-10 in the high school gym. Tickets are $10 at the door for all students. We hope to see you there.
