Sanford High School’s art trading wall

Bridging Sanford artists work from different imaginations and backgrounds

By: Ellie Hughes

The art wall at Sanford high school, in room B127, is created for art work made by artists of any age who may have pieces they want to share with the Sanford High community, starting on Nov. 6, 2025. When a student or a staff member brings an art piece in and hangs it on the wall, they also get to keep a project from a different artist.

A trend brought to SHS by Ms. Simoneau, the art wall is for students and staff who may want to express their artwork and enjoy the art of others. The goal of this project is to bring in community between the people at Sanford High School, and to share each other’s imagination and creativity by being able to hang their artwork up for others to see.

There are certain guidelines for hanging pieces on the art wall including; artwork can range in size from three inches by three inches to nine inches by 12 inches, art work much be able to be hung by thumb tacks, to take a piece of artwork you must leave one behind, there is no Ai artwork aloud to ensure human-to-human interaction and communication, and artwork must be school appropriate.

Art teacher, Ms. Simoneau, states “The art trading wall is more than just a trend; it’s about bringing community between students and staff. It’s a space to share happiness and creativity with each other!” She goes on to say “Art is the bridge between all of our different personalities, backgrounds, and experiences in this world; it is something that connects us all.”

Ms. Simoneau has high hopes that many people will participate in the idea of the art wall to bring students and staff together on a new and creative level.
