The Sanford Wrestling team makes its home debut with a brand new mat light

BY JACK VAN GIESON

On Wednesday, December 10, the Sanford wrestling team hosted its first league meet at home against the Kennebunk Rams and the combined team of Gorham and Scarborough.

This was the first time spectators got to see a new addition to the partners’ bank gymnasium, a center mat light.

When asked about the new mat light, Coach Smith said, “It’s something that the athletes and spectators have wanted for a long time.”

Sanford dominated the mat against Gorham-Scarborough, winning with a score of 72-6.

Sanford also won 54-21 against Kennebunk; a notable win was Ryder LaChance’s victory at the 126-pound weight class. He pinned Grisham Shields, an all-state contender, in the 3rd period.

If you want to see the wrestling team in action, the next home tournament will be the SWAT on January 2-3, a weekend wrestling event hosting over 20 teams.
