December 12-18 Winter Team Recap & Student Athlete Standouts

By SHS Teacher Lauren Roy

The following athletes had a standout week as the opening of the Winter Sports season 2025 – 2026. This series will run from the previous week’s Friday-Thursday and be posted on Mondays during the winter sports season. *to provide coverage on all Winter Sports, some weeks we may recap on the most recent if no other competitions have occurred.

Boys Basketball

The boys’ basketball team continued its winning streak last week, starting with a game against Cheverus at home last Friday. They had a dominant first half and didn’t let up the lead for the entirety of the game.

Against Kennebunk away on Tuesday, Dylan Gendron scored an impressive 19 points, Ryan Alexander and Carter Giroux added 14. With this win, the Spartans add another to their undefeated record.

Bryce Adams, this week’s standout athlete, has been “outstanding on both ends of the floor. Defensively, he has consistently limited opposing teams’ top players to single -digit scoring and low shooting percentages, and offensively has impacted the game in every way, leading the team in assists and averaging nearly 15 points per game, said Coach Morgan, also acknowledging that given his potential, he has “plenty of room to grow.”

Girls Basketball

The girls battled a tough game in their first loss against Cheverus last Friday. Mollie Puffer had 16 points at the end. The game was close during the first half, before Cheverus eventually pulled away with a win.

However, on Tuesday against Kennebunk, Puffer scored 16 points with the help of four 3-pointers, Paige Sevigny added 13 points and 10 rebounds, and the Spartans pulled away with a win.

Ella Tederous, our standout of the week, had 14 points against Cheverus in a double-double, rebounding and showing her strength. Against Kennebunk, she scored 9 points and 10 rebounds, almost earning another double-double in the process.

Sanford wrestling had a successful week, improving their record to 8-0.  Winning their meet at Bonny Eagle this week on Wednesday, winning 62-22. Earlier last week, they beat York 66-12.

Ricky Callis, wrestling’s standout athlete, got a “big league win” against Sawyer Rose for Bonny Eagle on Thursday, said Coach Smith. “Callis continues to dominate, undefeated on the season. He racked up three more pins and was the Champion at the Londonderry tournament,” added Smith.
