On March 17, 2026, eight members of Sanford High School’s National Honor Society travelled to the University of Maine in Orono for the annual National Honor Society Convention. Those who attended included Senior Officers, Isabella McCall, Annalise Stimmell and Sophie Olivo, as well as Juniors, Kaylee Gauthier, Hazel Marcinkowski, Eliza Allen and Yashvi Patel. They were accompanied by advisors Elizabeth White and Heather English.
The theme of this year’s convention was Rise with Resilience: Growing Through Adversity. The goal was to teach members of Maine’s various NHS chapters about how they can become more adaptable to changes in their lives, and to inform them about how they can help their communities to rise above challenges.
Public Speaker Julie De Jesus visited to share her experiences of challenges and resilience in her own life through a keynote presentation and small-group workshops.
SHS Junior Yashvi Patel was elected Southern Regional Representative to the Maine National Honor Society, where she will represent all Southern Maine NHS chapters in Maine NHS meetings and projects. She will also play an important role in involving the Sanford NHS in the decisions and actions of the Maine NHS.
