A closer look at some of our school’s heroes

SANFORD, Maine – Today we celebrate those who have risked their lives for our country, including those who walk the halls of SHS everyday.
The veterans at our school include Mr. O’Brien, Mrs. Emerson-Holm, Mr. Demarett, Mr. Jeney, Mr. Burbank, Mr. Clark, Mr. Rowe and Mr. Petermann.
Mr. Rowe served in the Army National Guard from 1997 to 2001 and signed up as his uncle’s chaplain assistant. “I encourage all students to at least take a look at the armed forces; there is a place for all types of people,” says Rowe.
Mr. Petermann served in the United States Army for 7 years of active duty and 3 years in the National Guard. He joined because he didn’t know what he wanted to do for a career and couldn’t afford to go to college. Petermann stated that, “Military service taught me so many skills that set me up for the rest of my life. I am glad and proud that I served my Country!”
