Wrestling’s Luke Callis and Basketball’s Sadie Sevigny named Spartan Athletes of the Week

In the second installment of this newly appointed series, Luke Callis and Sadie Sevigny have been named by The Spartan Times and Sanford Athletics as “Athletes of the Week” for their performances Jan. 8-13.

Callis, a junior on the boys varsity wrestling team, continues to be a leader both on and off the mat. He went 4-0 last week in his matches and tallied 5 pins against his opponents. He placed first in his 150-pound weight class at a competitive NH tournament.
“He was seeded second in the Dan Gionet Tournament and pinned his way through to the championship, including the number 1 seed in the finals,” said Coach Smith. “He worked very hard after a tough SWAT to push forward for that first-place finish.”
Sevigny, a junior on the girls varsity basketball team, proves that it’s not always about being a high scorer (which she often is), but one who also comes in the clutch when you need it, too. Her defensive plays for the week, which included 12 rebounds and two steals, were incredibly impactful against both Greely and Scarborough.

“Sadie hit the last two baskets for us against Scarborough, and none bigger than the three-pointer to give us the lead for good!” said Coach Kearson. The team defeated the Red Storm 33-31.
Congratulations to our Spartan Athletes of the Week!
