Varsity Sports Recap: Jan. 22-27

Boys Basketball

The boys varsity basketball team hosted Scarborough on Tuesday, Jan. 23, deafting the Red Storm 64-59. Makai Bougie led the way with a double-double, 20 points and 10 rebounds (making four 3-pointers). Brady Adams added 15 and Tanner McCann made 14.

They then hosted Gorham on Saturday, Jan. 27, falling to the Rams 69-57. Bougie posted another double-double with 20 points 11 rebounds. Adams added 15 points, making three 3-pointers.

This week they travel to Thornton Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and then to Bonny Eagle on Friday, Feb. 2.

Girls Basketball

The varsity Spartans faced their toughest week of the season to date. They fell to Scarborough 40-32 on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Sadie Sevigny made three 3-pointers and led the Spartans with 12 points. Paige Sevigny followed with a double-double, consisting of 10 points and 12 rebounds.

They were on the road again at South Portland on Thursday, Jan. 25, falling to the Red Riots 44-39. Paige Sevigny led the way with 16 points for the Spartans and Julissa McBarron added 15 points.

They finished the week against top-ranked Gorham at home on Saturday, Jan. 27. Sadie Sevigny led with 12 points and Paige Sevigny had 11.

This week, Sanford hosts Thornton Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and host Bonny Eagle on Friday, Feb. 2.

Unified Basketball

The Unified Basketball hosted Noble/Marshwoood on Monday, Jan. 22. Up next, they travel to Thornton Academy on Thursday, Feb. 1.

Cheerleading

The varsity Cheer squad took third at the SMAA Cheer Competition. They compete at Regionals at Cony High School on Saturday, Feb. 3

After a bye-week, the team competes in the SMAA Championship at USM on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Wrestling

The Spartans went 3-0 on the week, defeating Kennebunk 48-12, Fryeburg 65-7, and Windham/Westbrook GNG 46-31.

“James Chaplick looked particularly good wrestling 3-0 on the week under difficult circumstances,” said Coach Smitty.
