SHS Abroad, Sanford High’s travel program that officially launched last year with its first trip abroad, is taking their second trip to Greece this February break. Seventy-five people – 49 students, 15 parents and 10 teacher/staff chaperones – will depart Saturday, Feb. 17, and return Sunday, Feb. 25, for an adventure of a lifetime.

Starting on Feb. 17, two C&J Buses will transport the travelers to Logan Airport. Upon arrival in Athens, the travelers will be staying in Athens for three nights and four days.

During their stay, they will see the Olympic Stadium, Syntagma Square, and the Acropolis: Parthenon and Temple of Athena Nike. Then, they’ll visit the Acropolis Museum (home to ancient ruins and prehistoric artifacts) and explore the Plaka District and the Athenian Trilogy.

After Athens, the travelers are moving fast and are staying in four different cities and hotels in four nights. First, they will be heading to Tolo on Wednesday, Feb. 21. They will tour Cape Sounion with an expert local guide and visit the Temple of Poseidon. They will also see the Corinth Canal.

On Thursday, Feb. 22, SHS travelers will be going from Tolo to Epidaurus to Mycenae, an architectural site. They will learn about traditional clay techniques at a Mycenaean pottery experience and then travel to Olympia.

On Friday, Feb. 23, they will tour Olympia with an expert local guide and visit the Archaeological Museum of Olympia and the Museum of Archimedes. Then, they will travel to Delphi.

On their final day, Saturday, Feb. 24, SHS travelers will take a tour of Delphi to see the Temple of Apollo and visit the Delphi Museum. Then they will return to Athens where they will attend a formal Greek dinner with food, dancing and plate smashing.

Finally, on Sunday, Feb. 25 they will head back home, returning to Boston Logan Airport and traveling back to Sanford.
