SANFORD, Maine — Spring Spirit Week is taking place from May 13-18 this year. New to the school year, in addition to Homecoming celebrating fall sports, the Sanford Student Council and Pep Club have worked to create additional winter and spring spirit weeks to showcase all sports in all three seasons.

Descriptions of each Spirit Dress Up Day are listed below:

In addition to Spirit Days, the Student Council has devised a nearly week-long Rock Paper Scissors competition. On Monday as students enter the school, Student Council will hand out one beaded necklace per student as they enter the building.

From Monday to Thursday, students are encouraged to have rock paper scissor wars against people in their own grade only. The winner of the battle collects the loser’s necklace(s). When you lose, you’re out.

Here are the Rock, Paper, Scissor battle rules:

Then, at the baseball game on Thursday, the top four competitors from each grade (those with the most necklaces collected) will battle each other for the winning title. The winning class gets a staggering $400 prize!

There will be five varsity home games throughout the week that students are encouraged to attend while sporting theme attire. The games and themes are as follows:

At each game, there will be a Venue Decoration Contest and crowd enthusiasm scores that will be judged by SHS Staff.

In addition to Spirit Week, there will also be our annual “This is Us” Event.

“This is Us” Day is taking place on Friday, May 17 this year. There is going to be a BBQ lunch, mechanical bull riding, larping, the Kona Ice truck, obstacle courses, posters, and so much more.

“The goal of This Is Us is simple, it is a day where all students and staff can celebrate and be celebrated as being part of our school community,” said Mrs. Letourneau, Director of School Counseling. “There is a committee of club advisors that puts this event on and works hard to make sure we have a variety of activities for everyone.

Sanford High looks forward to an exciting week ahead!
