Decision Day May 1 at SHS

Regular seasons are wrapping up and teams are entering the postseason

Baseball

The #8 ranked Sanford fell to #9 ranked Gorham, 12-3 in the playoff preliminary on Tuesday, June 4.

Boys Lacrosse

Boys lacrosse started the week strong with a 17-1 win against Westbrook on Tuesday, May 28. Ayden Lockard scored 3 goals, AJ Anderson tacked on 2 assists. Eric Lachapelle 1 goal allowed.

Anderson called it “a good win for the seniors’ last game on Sanford turf.”

They then fell 14-9 to Kennebunk on the road on May 30. Lockard contributed 3 goals and Anderson tallied 2 assists. 

The co-op finished the regular season 8-6.

Girls Lacrosse

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse team ended their regular season 8-6 after defeating the Noble Knights 10-4 on Wednesday, May 29. Paige Sevigny led the way with four goals. Mckenna Nanartowich added three, Caiti Hanselmann added two, and Ali Long scored one goal and tallied one assist.

The #9 seeded Spartans traveled to #8 Massabesic in the first round of playoffs on Tuesday, June 3, falling to the Mustangs 18-10. Long scored three goals, Nanartowich and Savannah Knight added two, and Hanselmann, Paige Sevigny and Sadie Sevigny all added one apiece.

“I’m so incredibly proud of how hard the girls played this season,” said Coach Foley. “We thought this would be a rebuilding year after losing more than half our starting lineup, but these girls were more than ready to step up and continue strengthening this program. I can’t wait for next year.”

Boys Tennis

The Boys Tennis Team traveled to Marshwood for a preliminary playoff match, falling to the Hawks in a devastating 3-2 contest. They finished the season 3-9-1.

Girls Tennis

The Sanford Girls Tennis team hosted Portland for their Preliminary playoff match, defeating the Bulldogs 5-0:

Then, they defeated Gorham 4-1 in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, June 4. Guinard, Tounge, Payeur/Cote and Mann/Gendron were all victorious.

They then completed a 3-2 victory of the #3 ranked Cheverus Stags on Thursday, June 6. Guinard, Tounge, and Mann/Gendron were victorious. The team will be advancing to the Class A South Regional Finals – a record for the program!

The team will play the #1 seed Falmouth Navigators on Monday, June 10th at 2:30 pm at Bates College.

Track & Field

The Boys and Girls Track & Field team competed at the State Championship on Saturday, June 1 at Thornton Academy. Placing in the top 8 for the boys event:

Unfortunately, due to some registration technicalities, the girls 4×100, 4×400, and 4×800 relay teams were unable to compete. Top finishers for the girls team include:

Tucker Walker, Nick Farrington, and Carter Buswell will compete in the New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, June 8.
