While she may be a new face for students, she’s a familiar one to many SHS staff

SANFORD — We have a new face at the helm of Sanford High School this year, Mrs. Tracy Gibson. While she may be a new face to many, she is also a familiar face to those who have been in the Sanford School System for a long time. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Mrs. Gibson to help the student body get to know her.

Mrs. Gibson is a mother of four, two of which are Sanford graduates, and two are Massabesic graduates. She lives on a lake with her three dogs. 

Her favorite way to spend her free time is to explore the world outdoors by hiking, canoeing, paddle boarding and more. Her adventurous personality would explain why she recently took a trip to Ireland to enjoy the gorgeous views. 

Before becoming Sanford High School principal, Gibson was an administrator at the Biddeford School District. Prior to that, she was a social studies teacher at the Sanford Alt School and Sanford Junior High, so many folks in our school district already know her well.

She also spent time as a social worker and is a graduate from Simmons University in Boston, Mass.

Mrs. Gibson’s goals for the year are to build student achievement and help us focus on our academics. She had also mentioned that preparation for the exposure to after high school is extremely important for students to know. In addition, Gibson is working on growing the school climate and culture with staff and students by creating Spartan pride and involvement.

Mrs. Gibson wants us all to know that she truly cares and is here for all of us. Although she has a busy schedule, everyone has a voice and the safety of her students and staff comes first to build the passion at our school.

Saturday because it is a big family day.
