Sanford, ME – On Saturday, Sept. 21, the Sanford High School Marching Band performed their show at the second competition of the season at Old Orchard Beach High School.

Their show is titled “Beacon” and it is based on a native Mainer’s poem about lighthouses around Maine. There are many different staff who work hard to make this possible; Band Director is Hailey Francouer, Bryan MacDonald is the drill designer, Color Guard coaches are Drew and Eric Halpin-Desmaris, Anna Yuhas, and Claire Anderson, Tom LaPointe is the Battery, also known as marching percussion, instructor, and Raynor Pavloff is the front ensemble, stand still percussion, staff.

“I thought the marching band had a terrific first show,” said Francoeur. “This is a really demanding show, and everyone handled it really well. I’m super proud of everyone and excited to see where this show takes the group! There’s certainly still a lot of work to do.”

The Marching Band went on around 7 p.m. on the Old Orchard Beach High School field. They got scored in seven different categories and then overall. These categories include; Drum Major, Color Guard, Visuals, Percussion, Music, and General Effect. For each of these categories but drum major they got three out of five stars and in turn, got three stars overall. For drum major Quang Lam and Lydia Treadwell got 4 stars.

Sanford High School student Tim McGee was asked about his show he thought that it was a pretty solid show but there were moments where we messed up. “I can definitely see how much we’ve grown since band camp, but I can also see how much we can improve on.”

Their next competition is Sept. 28 at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
