SANFORD, Maine – The Sanford High School Theater Club has announced its fall play and spring musical for this 24-25 school year.

The fall play is called “12 Angry Jurors”, which is based on a really famous Broadway play and TV show called 12 Angry Men. Auditions for this began on Sept. 17 going until mid-November, but you still have time to join the stage crew.

The name has changed because women are now allowed to serve on a federal jury; they were not allowed to until the year 1973. This play is going to have major tension, anxiety, fighting, and just overall hot-headed drama.

Brett Williams added how the cast will be using decommissioned chairs from the Alfred Court House, plus the jury box and table from the Maine State Court house which they are very excited about. “12 Angry Jurors” will be in the spotlight from November 22 through the 24, with a student show on November 21 during the school day.

Onto the spring musical: “Grease”, which is explained as a 1950s bubblegum musical. When we say the word bubblegum, that means it’s basically delicious, heated-up music, and it is very catchy – you will want to sing and dance along.

The musical involves a bunch of high school students with a lot of background. For example the characters Danny and Sandy who went to separate schools and fall in love, then they end up in the same high school. You get to know a lot of characters throughout the musical.

Popular songs you may know that are in this musical are, Summer Nights, Beauty School DropOut, and Greece Lightning.

Auditions are not until December beginning right before Christmas break, everyone will then rehearse until around March. The show begins on March 28 and goes until the 30 of 2025, with the student show on Thursday, March 22, 2025.

There has not been an election yet for theater president, but more than 50 students showed up to the first meeting of the school year. It is the biggest club in the high school other than sports.

It is not too late to get involved! There are many opportunities including, stage, performers, the crew (doing the set, lights, sounds, etc). They will need MANY helpers for Greece since it is a heavy costume and set show.
