Sanford, MAINE – On Friday, March 14, Sanford High School jazz students traveled to Lake Region High School in Naples to perform in the Maine State Jazz Festival.

There were three different groups; in-school jazz, after-school jazz and jazz combo. Respectively, they received silver, bronze and silver medals.

Tim McGee (pictured, right), who arranged the combo’s music, and Jason Gastonguay (pictured, left) both received Outstanding Musicianship awards for their playing in the jazz combo.

The following students on receiving a rating of 1 on their solos:

  • Elijah Baker
  • Quang Lam
  • Tim McGee
  • Jason Gastonguay
  • Rebecca Horton
  • Brennan Reynolds
  • Evan Lynch

Band Director Hailey Francoeur worked with all three groups in the past few months to be ready for this festival. In preparation, on top of learning and rehearsing the music, music had to be chosen for the program, and soloists had to be decided.

The team celebrated at Pizza Hut after the exciting day!
