Decision Day May 1 at SHS

After a three-year slump with low numbers and co-op teams

SANFORD – SHS student interest has increased enough to add another team this Spring to the Softball program.

Last year’s SHS softball team was only a junior varsity program. This season, due to the increased interest in softball and incoming freshmen, Sanford has been lucky enough to have two teams for the 2026 spring season.

Pitcher and catcher tryouts were held the week of 3/23; tryouts for everyone else started the following week. Returning coaches are Tori Lawrence and Hannah Crosby for Varsity, and Abby Hanson is a new addition, coaching the JV team.

Autumn Liston, Senior captain, said: “I think it will be a great season, there might be some challenges this season with having two teams after only having one for so long, but as long as we work hard and put the effort in, both teams will be in great shape.”

Sanford Softball teams kick off their first game away during April break at Gorham, and their first home game on Monday, April 27 home at 4:30 against Kennebunk.
