Decision Day May 1 at SHS

Spring sports have just gotten underway, and the Sanford Spartans have had a great start to the season! 

Girls Tennis

The girls’ tennis team has had a strong start to their season, winning 4-1 against Gorham High School. Top winners included Angelina Hu, and Haley Payeur. On 4/27, they travelled to South Portland High School and won 5-0, with all players winning their matches. On Friday, May 1, the team played away at Deering High School, winning 5-0, contributing to their current undefeated record. 

Girls Track and Field

Also with an undefeated record, the girls’ track and field team travelled to Falmouth High School on 4/16, competing against Falmouth and Thornton Academy. They won against both teams with 90 points. Top performers of the meet included: 

The team also hosted its first home meet of the season against Deering and Windham. The team won with 126 points. Top performers from this meet included:

The team will be travelling to Bonny Eagle High School on 5/7.

Softball

On 4/24 the softball team travelled to Gorham, and lost 18-0. On 4/27 the team played against Kennebunk at home and lost 18-1. Faith Martel scored one point for the team. On May first they lost 18-0 to Massabesic. This is softball’s first year back competing at the Varsity level as a new team at SHS. 

Baseball

The baseball team’s record is currently 1-3. On 4/24, they competed at home against Gorham, and lost 8-1. Senior Cayden Gendron scored one run for the team. On 4/28, the team competed against Cheverus away, losing 4-2. On Friday, 5/1, the Spartans played South Portland at home and lost 5-1. On Sunday, 5/3, the team travelled to Windam High School, taking an impressive win of 15-1. Top scorers from this game included Cayden Gendron and Matthew Hebert.

Boys Track and Field

The boys’ track and field team travelled to Falmouth High School on 4/16, competing against Thornton Academy and Falmouth. They placed second with 60 points. Here are some of the top scores of the meet:

The team also competed at home against Deering and Windham. They placed second with 95 points. Top performances from this meet include:

The team will be travelling to Bonny Eagle High School on 5/7.

Girls Lacrosse

The girls’ lacrosse team competed against Portland at home on 4/16, winning 9-8. On 4/21, they travelled to Messalonskee High School and lost 17-3. On 4/24, the team competed at home against Levitt, winning 5-4.  Paige Sevigny has been recognized for her efforts on the field as an offensive leader. 

Boys Lacrosse

No games during this time

Boys Tennis

The boys’ tennis team competed at home against South Portland on 4/27, losing 2-3. Both teams of doubles won their matches, including Veerasak Sungvean, Elijah Bowden, Clayton Lheareaux, and Brenden Sprague. Against Deering, the boys lost their match 0-5 as well as against South Portland.
