Students with an unweighted grade point average of above an 88% receive an invitation

SANFORD- On April 29, more than 100 students received an invitation to a Google Classroom, inviting students to start the application process to Sanford High School’s National Honor Society (NHS). NHS is a country-wide community-based extracurricular that recognizes students who excel in scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
At Sanford High School, the club is run by Mrs. English, a science department member, and Mrs. White, the head of the English department. On Google Classroom, they created an invitation letter and a candidate form.
Qualities mentioned earlier are what our NHS advisors look for in students who apply. Mrs. White said these traits “make a well-rounded individual, and will set individuals up for success” . Students who are in the club are seen as “role models” for our school and community.
The National Honor Society has hosted a plethora of events this school year, including writing letters as Santa, two blood drives, and hiding easter eggs for parents. Additionally, their upcoming service act is walking through the halls of Pinicale in Sanford with students dressed in their Prom apparel, and advisor Mrs. White hopes this will “put some smiles on their faces.”
Meetings are twice a month in the Sanford High School cafeteria from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. During non-sports seasons, they try to meet from 2:30 to 3:30 after school to accommodate more students involved.
Senior and active NHS member, Ava Hudson said: “I enjoy being in NHS because it allows me to collaborate with peers who have very valuable ideas, and allows me to connect with my community and give back in positive ways.”
Don’t miss out on this amazing chance to serve Sanford. Being invited is a great accomplishment, and those invited should take advantage of the experience.
The candidate form is due Friday, May 15, before the bell at 2:20 p.m. The faculty council will review the application during the selection process, and the new members will be announced at the 2026 awards assembly.
