SANFORD – The Spartans Boys Soccer team beat the Bonny Eagle Scots at Alumni Stadium in front of the crowd for the first homecoming sports event on Sept. 21, 2026.

Sanford started with 2 goals in the first half by offensive players, Senior Ivo Mpeko and Sophomore Gabe Phillips. On defense, Senior Elijah Bowden blocked Bonny Eagle’s scoring opportunities.

Then in the second half, Bonny Eagle answered immediately by bringing the score to 2-1. SHS responded when two other players scored, Sophomore Finley Mann and Senior Elijah Laurendeau sealed the win.

The game ended 4-2, with Sanford winning their first of the season. We asked one of the seniors on the soccer team, Eli Laurendeau, how he felt about last night, ‘’It feels great to get our first win; shout out to Elijah Bowden for saving all the shots except one.’’ Both players contributed significantly to the win, with Laurendeau scoring a goal and Bowden defending Bonny Eagles’ shots.

While the boys soccer team was playing on the field, each grade level was competing for the best homecoming spirit. They competed in cheers, attendance, and number of participants for the theme of the game. The theme was types of parties.

The homecoming advisor, Mr. Smith, was keeping track of every cheer and participant to then add to the Spartan points for the Spirit Stick. Another thing that was also going to be added to the Spartan Points was the Halftime Game. The Halftime game for the boys’ soccer game was the Rice Krispie Pool Noodle Relay, which the Juniors managed to win.

The boys soccer team started the season 0-3 and finally found their momentum during their fourth game of the season in front of the homecoming crowd, winning against Bonny Eagle 4-2.
